Mulled Wine

At the time of writing, this is the first year where I have quit alcohol completely. But, one of my favourite things about Christmas is Mulled Wine… not because of the booze, but because of the wonderful Christmassy flavours and how beautiful and warming it is. So, I decided to make a version with Alcohol-Free Red Wine, and it worked brilliantly! But, best of all, this is also perfect if you have normal boozey Red Wine too. So everyone is a winner! If you make this, you’re guaranteed to have a Merry Christmas.

Serves: 4 Cooking Time: 10 mins

  • A Bottle of Red Wine
  • 1 x Cinnamon Stick
  • 6 x Cloves
  • 2 x Mace Strands
  • 8 x Cardamom Pods
  • 2 x Star Anise
  • 2 x Bay Leaves
  • 6 x Black Peppercorns
  • A Pinch of Saffron
  • A Grating of Nutmeg
  • Clementine Peel
  • Lemon Peel
  • A slice of the clementine
  • 50g Demerara Sugar

Place a saucepan over a medium-high heat, add in the wine and all the ingredients.

Bring up to a gentle simmer, and reduce the heat down to a medium-low.

Place on a lid, and leave to simmer and let the flavours infuse for 10 minutes or so.

Turn off the heat and serve while still nice and hot. Pour into a glass through a sieve or muslin cloth to make sure there are no bits in the wine!
