It’s been a particularly frugal month but, at the time of writing, with Mother’s Day around the corner I needed a quick, affordable – but good – gift for my Mum. Chocolate is always a go-to, but just buying chocolates seems lazy, and my Mum is a diabetic so she has to be careful what she eats.
This is where this super quick, simple and entirely sugar-free and vegan recipe comes in. This creates a batch of lovely, rich and decadent chocolate truffles in roughly 45 minutes. You can even tailor the flavour – so if you don’t want to use orange, you could use vanilla, coffee, or anything really.
This recipe uses sugar-free dark chocolate, and because it has avocado that means it’s dairy-free as well. Perfect!

Print RecipeIngredients
- 100g Sugar-Free Dark Chocolate
- 1 Large (or 2 small) Avocado
- 1 Tsp Orange Extract
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- Cocoa Powder (for coating)
Instructions
Peel and de-stone the avocado. Then, in a food processor, blitz it up until smooth. If you don't have a food procesor, mash it up as fine as you can with a fork or potato masher.
Melt the chocolate, and then pour in with avocado.
Add in the salt and orange extract and mix everything together until well combined.
Place in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up slightly.
Divide into portions and roll into balls.
Coat the balls in the cocoa powder and enjoy!
