Video Games are great! They give you whole worlds where you can live out a completely different life as a soldier, a cowboy, pirate, assassin, or even a uh, hedgehog. But, so many video games these days have such immersive worlds you’ll see all kinds of unique foods created for those world, twists on well-known dishes, or even actual recipes within the game! This led me to start up this new segment – video game grub where I explore foods found in video game!
We’re kicking off with an Apple Pie recipe found within puzzle-explorer-adventure “What Remains of Edith Finch” – right at the beginning of the game you discover a recipe book in the kitchen with a full recipe within it! But is it a recipe that can actually make a great apple pie? Or is it Game Over? I delve in and give it a go!
Apple Pie from "What Remains from Edith Finch"

- 6 cups (900g) Sliced Peeled Tart Apples
- 2 Tbsp Water
- 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1/2 Cup (100g) Sugar
- 1/2 Cup (100g) Packed Brown Sugar
- 3 Tbsp All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 Tsp Ground Nutmeg
- 1/8 Tsp Ground Ginger
- 1/8 Tsp Salt
- Pastry for Double-Crust Pie (9 inches)
Instructions
In a saucepan, combine the apples, water and lemon juice: cook over medium-low heat just until the apples are tender. Remove from the heat and cool (do not drain).
In a large bowl, combine the sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and salt: add apples and toss to coat. Place bottom pastry in pie plate: add apple mixture. Cover with top pastry: seal and flute edges. Cut slits in top crust.
Bake at 450°F (220°C) for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F (175°C): bake 35-45 minutes longer or until golden brown.
